A Man Worth Knowing
Weird can be meaningful
I’ve produced video content for over a decade now, and I sometimes think A Man Worth Knowing is the only meaningful thing I’ve created.
Why do I think that?
Because it was pure exploration. My brother and I were brand new to the video production world; I was turning my photography skills into video skills and he was getting really good at audio capture and sound design. We were having fun learning.
A Man Worth Knowing started when I called my brother and told him we should record a man making and eating a sandwich.
That was it.
The below videos are what we ended up with.
A Man Worth Knowing - Pilot.
This is the very first episode we produced. We went to Value Village with Aaron and bought him a turtle neck sweater that he absolutely hated. He agreed to wear it.
I miss making stuff with Aaron, and I think you’ll see why.
If you have to explain a joke, it’s not funny.
One of my favourite moments with these videos, was when I played an episode or two at a family Christmas gathering.
When we were done watching, a relative said: “So… why are these funny?”
I knew right then that we were on to something good.
Season 2, cancelled after 1st episode.
We took a decent break from the series, and then came back — as though we were launching season 2.
But then we started to grow up and get busy. Aaron’s living out in B.C, and my brother and I have kids and a little less time. I’ll cherish these memories, big time.
While the videos ended up being pretty good, it was the experience of making them that was magical. Sometimes I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. I’d say that’s a pretty good sign you’re on the right track.
